The 2023 Nissan Z: When the Present Meets the Past

Last September, Nissan presented the Z Proto, a study that foreshadowed the seventh-generation model, eagerly awaited by enthusiasts. The current Nissan Z is still an extraordinary car, but its most recent renewal dates back some 15 years.

With the concept unveiled in the fall of 2020, one thing was clear; the company wanted to pay homage to its past with a creation that borrowed from features put forward over time. The mission has been accomplished with flying colours. The new Z is dramatically styled and true to the prototype, as well as to the first Z in history, the 1970 model. Most importantly, it retains the recipe that made it so successful. Let's see what this future classic will look like.

L'Ami Junior Nissan, your dealer in Saguenay near Jonquière and La Baie, can't wait for you to discover the new Z. Come find your new Nissan vehicle or explore our inventory of used vehicles.

The Mechanics

The one thing that interests the Z enthusiasts most, aside from the styling, is what's under the hood. This time, Nissan is using a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, a block that will serve up 400 horsepower on a silver platter. As for torque, it will be available very early in the engine's rev range (starting at 1,600 rpm) and is rated at 350 lb-ft. Nissan has not released any data for the 0-100 km/h, but it mentions that a 15% increase can be expected.

This engine can be paired with two different transmissions. The standard one is mechanical and has six gears. It has been calibrated for sporty driving, especially with short ratios. It will also benefit from the SyncroRev Match system introduced with the current generation. This system allows us to have the feel of a pilot, while the engine speed adjusts electronically when downshifting.

For those who prefer the automatic transmission, Nissan will offer a new unit with nine links. For performance, a Launch Control mode will be included, as well as steering wheel paddles to add to the fun.

An Enhanced Car

We haven't driven the Nissan Z yet, as it will be hitting dealerships next spring. However, we have an idea of what to expect, since Nissan explained that they have improved everything they could to make it sharper, but also more user-friendly.

For example, they mention having made the necessary adjustments to the suspension elements to offer smoother performance on uneven surfaces. Meanwhile, chassis modifications, increased body rigidity and wider front wheels, among other things, will enable the person behind the wheel to attack the road with more confidence.

A Modern Cabin

What had aged the most with the Z was its interior. This has been addressed with panache in the new model, which now features a spectacular living environment. In front of the driver, a highly configurable 12.3-inch screen will allow you to consult the information you deem relevant. In the centre of the console, a multimedia system is nestled behind the 8-inch screen. Of course, all the usual functionalities will be available, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, as well as a Wi-Fi connection.

The equipment is generous with the two versions that will be reserved for the Canadian market: namely Sport and Performance. The latter will offer a little more, obviously, like a Bose audio system and leather upholstery, but nothing important is lost with the base model. A third, limited edition will also be offered under the name Proto Spec.

Style and Colours

In closing, a word about styling. When it comes to respecting tradition, it's evident in the front grille, the car's logos, but above all, the Nissan Z's profile, which honours the original creation in every way. The lights, arranged vertically, recall the older generations of the model. The effect is very successful!

As for the colours offered, the buyer will have plenty of choice. First of all, two monochromatic options will be available, namely black diamond metallic and industrial bronze metallic. In addition, five two-tone paints will be offered, each paired with a black roof: rock grey, Seiran blue, Ikazuchi yellow, passion red and eternal white.
