A true pioneer, the Nissan Leaf electric has been around for years and remains one of the best-selling cars in its segment. Today, Nissan unveils a reworked Nissan Leaf 2023.

Find out more about the Nissan Leaf Canada, including its styling adjustments, changes in the lineup and its qualities that remain the same, namely its engines and its spacious interior.

The Nissan Leaf Electric with a Revamped Style

On the outside, the Japanese automaker wanted to make the Leaf 2023 even more attractive by making several aesthetic changes, including:

  • An illuminated Nissan logo
  • A smooth grille
  • Black trim and a black finish on the headlights
  • New 17-inch wheels

The wheels have a new 5-spoke design and are standard for a more dynamic look. Changes in the shape of elements such as the rear spoiler and diffuser are also made to improve the car’s aerodynamics.

The illuminated logo also appears inside, on the steering wheel. The interior also gets a few tweaks, although a little less than the exterior. A new black-trimmed interior awaits you in the SL Plus version, for example.

Nissan Leaf Range: No Longer a Basic Version

This SL Plus is still at the top of the Nissan Leaf range. The manufacturer has chosen instead to truncate the range by removing the S Plus version. This entry-level model was the one that offered the lowest level of equipment; Nissan is therefore trying to meet the needs of consumers with more complete versions.

There are three versions: SV, SV Plus and SL Plus. Let’s remember that, among the technologies that were added to the SV and that were not included in the S Plus, there were among others:

  • Navigation system
  • Voice recognition
  • Sirius TravelLink service
  • Perimeter Display
  • NissanConnect EV Services

The NissanConnect application is a very useful tool for electric car drivers, as it allows you to view the charge of your car remotely. Of course, it also allows you to control your car remotely, for example by activating the air conditioning.

As for the 2023 Nissan Leaf price, it has not yet been revealed; let’s recall in passing that they had been considerably reduced for 2022, by $6,800 per version. Stay tuned to your Nissan dealer for pricing!

Nissan Leaf Batteries: Always Two Batteries

On the powertrain side, you still have two options for the Nissan Leaf batteries.

The first one is offered exclusively on the SV version: it’s a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers a 110 kW electric motor. This allows it to develop 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.

The second battery powers a 160 kW motor, equivalent to 214 horsepower, and sends out an even more generous 251 lb-ft of torque. Range is yet to be determined for the 2023 models, but it is expected to remain similar to the 2022 model, at about 240 km to 363 km depending on the battery.

It can also be recharged quickly: the 40 kWh battery can regain 80 percent of its charge in 40 minutes with a 50 kW outlet.

Finally, according to the Nissan Leaf 2022’s critics, its mechanics give it an excellent ride. According to Gilles Pilon of L’Annuel de l’automobile:

The Leaf’s suspension is smoother than that of competing Hyundai, Kia and Chevrolet.

Is Nissan Better Than Hyundai?

Based on the reviews and Nissan’s experience with electrification, we can guess that its electric cars do indeed offer a number of qualities over its rivals.
